How to Successfully Bake Cookies... with a Toddler!

Let's be real.  Baking with a three year old might not be the easiest thing in the world.  I have taken it upon myself to put together a little guide that can make this process easy and fun for everyone!  If you're planning on baking with a toddler and were worried, have no fear.  Just follow these few easy steps and you'll be enjoying (edible) cookies in no time!

1.  Pre-measure all of your ingredients before baking.

Trust me, this is a crucial step!  Measure everything out and put it all in Tupperware.  Feel free to accidentally over measure the M&M's.... and add a few extra mini chocolate chips!

2.  Put toddler in a cute apron.

This step accomplishes a few things.  First, it protects clothing (not face) from chocolate, butter, etc.  Second, now they feel like they're a chef (this is a big deal to a three year old!).  Finally, it's just so dang cute.

3.  Start making cookie dough!

Now aren't you glad you pre-measured your ingredients... this is so easy!  Don't forget to let the kids stir (they love that part).

4.   Convince toddler to count cookies before eating one (therefore avoiding a burnt tongue).

This is a tough step because they can really only count to ten... if they're concentrating.  They may use the same number a couple times too many, but who cares!  You gotta let these babies cool down before the little one eats one four.

5.  After getting chocolate all over their face and hands, spray toddler down with hose.

Baby wipes are another option here, but let's be honest, they're not going to cut it.  Be nice enough to use the "spray" setting instead of the "sharp" setting, they'll enjoy it a lot more.  Also be aware that if they have a watering can, they may want to "water your feet."  This isn't exactly necessary while wearing sneakers so be sure to plan ahead!

I hope this guide was helpful if you're planning on baking with a toddler.  Special thanks to my sister-in-law for lending me a toddler and a kitchen to mess up!  And thank you to my adorable niece, Abby!!!
